Bronya Shaffer
She is a noted globetrotting lecturer on Jewish women’s issues, and serves as a personal counselor and mentor for women, couples and adolescents. Mrs. Shaffer, a responder for Chabad.org ’s “Ask the Rabbi” service, is an experienced mother of ten children and lectures around the world on parenting, education, women’s issues, abuse and other topics. She was one of the introductory speakers at the inaugural Sinai Indaba here in South Africa and is a much sought after speaker worldwide

Rabbi Daniel Bieder
Daniel started his investment banking career at Chase Manhattan as a currency trader, after which he moved over to Corporate Finance roles at ANZ Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland. He currently resides in Israel, where he spends time on many interesting projects. Daniel is a popular speaker and understands the needs and aspirations of Jewish students and young professionals as they embark on their adult lives while seeking to reconcile their ambitions with their cultural heritage and identity.

Chazan Shmuly Hurwitz
Cantor Shmuly Hurwitz has conducted Shabbos and Yom Tov services in Shuls and at Jewish events throughout the world. At a very young age, he was already renowned for his beautiful voice and his ability to inspire crowds to sing along. He is no stranger to pop music and on-stage performances, singing by weddings, dinners, and events worldwide. Cantor Hurwitz’s cheerful and pleasant demeanor yet powerful voice make his listeners feel the urge to come back for more.

Stan Matthews
Stanley Matthews is known for being past Premier Soccer League CEO and currently CEO of top football club SuperSport United. He will relate stories of his experience and religious transformation with moticational tips for general life-success.

Howard Feldman

MZANSI YOUTH CHOIR
established in 2003 with the aim of affording talented, underprivileged teenagers and young adults the opportunity to proficiently perform locally and abroad. The choir consists of 45 choristers from Soweto and other areas in and around Johannesburg. The word Mzansi means “south” in isiZulu and is also the township slang word for South Africa. The choir’s repertoire is an exciting assortment of South African music which incorporates elements of traditional music, pop and jazz

LCHATCHILA
Cousins Baruch Raff and Yisrael Meir Raff grew up with Jewish music. They spent their childhood, growing up making music together, and always performed at community and school functions. Having both been through the Israeli Yeshiva system, they brought that signature style and vibe back to South Africa, and that inspired the name Lechatchila, which means ‘the ultimate choice’. There is a strong consistent beat to create an awesome vibe throughout Pesach, withy the latest hits and the good old vibey songs as well.

SHAREEN RICHTER
Laughter and Happiness Professor Shareen Richter is an expert at creating stress fee and happy organizations and individuals. She completed courses on happiness in the workplace from both Yale University and UC Berkley in the USA. She has published on international media outlets and been a TEDx speaker. Shareen’s training has reached over 50,000 people worldwide. Attend Shareen’s entertainment and workshop where she will use international tools and strategies to teach you ‘How to Kick Stress in the Butt’ and feel happier and more resilient.

RABBI ARI & BATYA KIEVMAN
are instrumental to making the Pesach Retreat a reality. After experiencing Pesach hotel programmes in the USA, they wished to bring some of that experience to South Africa where they serve as Chabad emissaries. Together they direct Chabad’s vibrant Seniors programmes, Sandton Central Shul & Tourist hospitality centre and give regular lectures in Johannesburg including a weekly radio show on 101.9 ChaiFM.

RABBI DAVID MASINTER
is founder and director of the Miracle Drive annual charity drive, and director of Chabad House in Johannesburg as well as spiritual leader of Chabad Benmore/Riverclub. He lectures in Tanya, the primary text of Chabad Chassidus and has authored the Grow Your Life series. He will share his advice for life and some recent stories from the ARK ‘Acts of Random Kindness’ campaign that has garnered international acclaim.

CHIEF RABBI DR WARREN GOLDSTEIN
is a household name since the inauguration of the Shabbos Project, Rabbi Dr Goldstein is qualified as a dayan, BA, LLB, and a PhD. in Human Rights and Constitutional Law. He is a vocal defender of Israel, writing articles and speaking at government meetings. His leadership has included focus in groundbreaking projects including CAP, Interfaith Relations,School Talmud Learning and Bill of Responsibilities.

IAN MANN
From TV host to columnist, international speaker to consultant, Ian specialises in strategy and leadership. His greatest strength is his ability to communicate sophisticated and complex concepts in an easy to understand, stimulating and engaging manner. “He is the author of the best-selling books “Managing with Intent” and “Strategy that Works” and wrote a weekly column for the Business Section of the Sunday Times called “Mann’s World”. Little wonder then that Ian brings his prodigious knowledge to all his consulting, training and speaking engagements.

RABBI RON & WENDY HENDLER
is head of the Conversion Program at the South African Beis Din, and spiritual leader of Shul @ 51 Northfield. Wendy Hendler is a certified More To Life Coach and an experienced Mentor of the Power of Purpose and Power of Self Esteem Courses. She is also a Diplomate Clinician in Logotherapy (Viktor Frankel’s revolutionary meaning-centred psychotherapy), and facilitates Logotherapy Workshops. A mother of 7 children and a Rabbi’s wife, Wendy finds her skills invaluable in raising her children and serving her community.

How far is Rustenburg from Johannesburg?
The hotel is about a 2 hours drive from Johannesburg.
Any specific travel rules that we should be aware of?
Yes. Please note that visitors must ensure that they have at least 2 blank VISA pages (not endorsement pages) in their passport. Passports must also be valid for at least 6 months ahead or they WILL be denied boarding to South Africa.
Any recommendations for best flight options?
All flights need to be booked directly by clients but we are happy to assist with any related questions or to help you book for a fee.
Ethiopian and Emirates are good options for flights from Israel or one can fly via Europe.
British and Virgin fly regularly direct from London. KLM flies direct from Amsterdam. Air France flies direct from Paris. Swiss Air from Zurich. Lufthansa has direct flights Germany.
United Airlines flies direct from New York to Johannesburg daily. Delta flies non-stop from Atlanta to Johannesburg daily.Use Google flights for a selection of best flight options.
Q: Is there available transportation to and from the airport?
A: Yes. There are taxis, Uber (and similar services such as Bolt) available at any time of day or night. You can also hire a rental car from the many car rental companies in the airport. Contact us if your require assistance.
Q: I have young children. Have you planned any babysitting options?
A: Yes. We are arranging babysitters to be available for the requests of our Pesach guests at local competitive prices. As the hotel is a distance from the city, babysitters arrangements need to be made in advance. To ensure that a babysitter is available for you at any time of day or night, please make sure to request when making your booking.
Q: Is there a laundry service?
A: Yes, the hotel does offer laundry service
so you can pack light. Dry cleaning is directly available through the hotel. We have negotiated special rates per bag instead of per item for the duration of our program.
Q: Is it possible to have a fridge in our room?
A: Yes. Each room has a mini refrigerator for your convenience.
Q: Will the meals be served plated or buffet style?
A: Some meals will be served regally to your table while others will be buffet style.
Q: Can we invite family or friends to join us for a meal?
A: Yes. if you want to have guests, please let us know in advance to make arrangements in our restaurants. Please see the rates page
for the day-visitors options. Please note that meals must be pre arranged as for security reasons we will not allow any visitors on to the premises without prior arrangement.
Q: What is provided between meals?
A: We will have available complementary drinks, hot tea and fresh coffees as well as snacks. There will be an Afternoon Tea with extra refreshments too.
Q: Will there be a Community Seder available on both nights if we choose not to make our own?
A: Yes. There will be a Community Seder, led by the rabbis, cantor and other inspiring personalities for both nights. We also propose, semi-private Sedarim in private adjoining rooms.
There may also be an exclusive all-ladies Seder led by world renowned speaker, Mrs Bronya Shaffer.
Q: Our family would like to have a private Seder, away from the other guests. Is that an option?
A: Yes. However there are only a few private rooms available. Please request this option in advance as it’ll be available on a first come, first served basis. There is an additional cost for Private Seder rooms.
Q: Will you provide Shmura Matza or should we bring our own?
A: Round hand-made Shmura Matza as well as square machine Matzas will be available throughout Yom Tov. If you have your own preference of Matza, please feel free to bring your own with (provided it has a SABD approved hechsher).
Do we need visas to travel to South Africa?
Citizens of the USA, most commonwealth countries, and Israel do not require visas. Be sure to ascertain in advance whether you require a visa.
Any specific rules when flying with children (young adults)?
If you are flying with children under age 18 then you must take along their original birth certificates. If a child is traveling with only one parent then you’re also required to have an affidavit granting permission from the other parent endorsing travel with the child.
Q: What is the closest airport to the hotel?
A: Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Intl Airport is about an hour and 45 minute drive from the hotel. Lanseria Airport is much closer for domestic travel.
Q: Are you able to provide us with transportation?
A: We can organize your transfer, at a competitive price, in partnership with a specialized service provider. In addition, the representative will meet you at the airport and drive you to the hotel safely. Please inquire with us once your Pesach reservation is finalized.
Q: Will there be a Kid’s Club?
A: Yes. There will be a special
Kids program during Yom Tov with supervision, activities, lessons and games available on site for children from 3 to 12 years. Children under age 3 must always be accompanied with an adult. You can arrange a babysitter for younger kids.
Q: How is the price so low compared with other programs?
A: Our aim is to provide an affordable Pesach Retreat. While we keep the price lower than most others, we don’t offer the same amenities as you may encounter at costlier Pesach getaways. We pride ourselves for providing an excellent program at a great price.
Q: Some family members are allergic to certain foods. What arrangements can be taken to meet their needs?
A: We take food allergies seriously. Kindly inform us of any allergy problems in advance, and we will try to arrange food available for you and your family that is adequate and delicious.
Q: If we want to go outside the resort, are there any shuttles or taxis available?
A: If you want a specific transport, the concierge is at your disposal to organize your outings or tours at preferential rates.
Q: We live in SA. Can we come to visit just for the day?
A: Yes. Please see our rates page for day-visitor info, including the option of staying overnight as well as just enjoying meals and the program.
Q: One of our family members has a birthday, can we get a cake?
A: Yes, simply inform us in advance, we will be happy to offer them a personalized cake.
Q: Will there be activities and entertainment for adults?
A: In addition to the vast opportunities in the region, there will be a full program of events, lectures and activities for our guests.
Q: Can we bring our wine if there is something specific that we prefer?
A: We offer a variety of wines which will be available during Yom Tov meals. However, you can bring your own kosher l’Pesach wine or spirits that you prefer. The corkage fee is included in the booking package.
Other fine wines may be available to purchase as well.
